Each week we salute one of Central New York's First Responders. Those who come to our rescue no matter the weather, the time of day, or what is going on in their own life at the moment. This week we salute Mohawk's Daniel Mabbett.

If there is an emergency in the Mohawk Valley, chances are you'll see Daniel at the scene. He serves in several capacities as a firefighter and EMT. His full time job is with the Herkimer Fire Department where he pulls two 24 hour shifts a week. Daniel also volunteers with the Town of Mohawk Department.

If there were such a thing as "off days" for Daniel, it would be off from his work as a firefighter. His EMT duties include responding to emergencies with Kunkle Ambulance or serving as a dispatcher.

Firefighting runs in the Mabbett family, his father is currently a Captain with the Mohawk Department and his brother volunteers with Herkimer. Daniel and the entire Mabbett family, thanks for all you do protecting us and serving your communities.

Do you know a first responder that deserves to be recognized? Tell us about someone who should be honored in Central New York - a firefighter, police officer, EMT, forest ranger, paramedic, DEC officers, military, rescuers, front line workers, or any other person first on the scene.

Include their name, a picture and why they should be recognized during 'First Responder Friday." We'll honor one first responder every Friday and as a way to say thank you, we'll give them a Bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
