First Accumulating Snow of Season Coming to Central New York

Get the snow shovels and snow blowers ready. The first significant snowfall of the season is coming to Central New York.

It was only a matter of time before we saw more than a few flakes in the forecast. A storm is expected to bring accumulating lake-effect snow that could be heavy at times in Oneida, Madison, and Onondaga Counties.

Lake Effect Snow Warning in Northern Oneida County

The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for Northern Oneida County from Monday afternoon (11/27) through late Tuesday night (11/28). Up to a foot of heavy lake-effect snow is possible.

If it were to set up a little north of Oneida County, we`ll likely see less snowfall overnight Monday, and then start seeing an increase in snowfall rates into Tuesday for Oneida County as the band swings southward.

Winter Storm Watch in Oneida, Madison & Onondaga Counties

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Southern Oneida, Madison and Onondaga Counties starting Tuesday morning (11/28).

4 to 6 inches of snow is expected when the lake effect snow showers drop southward on Tuesday It's expected to bring some impactful snow accumulations to the New York Thruway corridor, creating a slippery commute.

There`s an even greater uncertainty for Onondaga and Madison counties with the timing of the lake-effect band and snow amounts associated with it.

Monday: A chance of showers, mainly before 9 AM Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. New precipitation amounts to less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Monday Night: Snow showers likely, mainly after 7 PM. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 25. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.
Tuesday: Snow showers. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 32. Wind gusts as high as 33 mph.
Tuesday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21.
Wednesday: A chance of snow showers after 1 PM. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34.
