Additional Information

Clinton and Kirkland sit upon 150 million tons of iron ore. Once there was a thriving ore mining industry in our area. The story of this bygone industrial era will be the subject of a February 9th presentation entitled, ’History of Clinton Hematite Ore in Clinton Between 1797 and 1963’.

Village and Town Historian Richard Williams will deliver his recently updated talk and powerpoint presentation on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 2 PM at the Clinton Historical Society, One Fountain St., Clinton, NY.

Residents living on Dawes. Kellogg, Brimfield, and New streets will be especially interested as their homes sit above the old mines.

Mr. Williams has been village and town historian since 2000 and holds a degree in history from Syracuse University and a master’s from SUNY Albany. He taught American history at LaFayette High school and Whitesboro Senior High School and served as CHS president 1972-1974 and 1999-2004. Williams has given many presentations on local history to area audiences.

Refreshments will follow the program. The presentation is free and open to the public.

A photograph of early Clinton miners is attached for use in publicizing this program.
