Celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22nd at the Colgate Bookstore from 6pm – 8pm!

This year marks the 30th year of recycling in Madison County and the 50th celebration of Earth Day. Kristin Welch, the Recycling Coordinator at the Department of Solid Waste, will provide an update on the current recycling program with an overview of what should and should not go in the recycling bin. Residents can also pick up recycling resources to help them rethink waste at home.

The Hamilton Climate Preparedness Working Group is a group of folks who have been working together for the last 4 years to support the town and village of Hamilton as we try to plan for and respond to the onset of climate change. Christopher Henke (Associate Professor of Sociology and Environmental Studies at Colgate University) will give an overview of the group, why and when it started, its mission and goals, and it’s work in pursuit of NY's Climate Smart Communities certification---this is a program that gives NY communities benchmarks to meet for climate mitigation and adaptation. He will also share data on the climate footprints of the town and village.

Kristin Welch and Christopher Henke will answer questions after their presentations, and light refreshments will be available. This event is free and open to all. The bookstore will be open until 8pm. All environmentally friendly merchandise will be 20% off, including by Humankind and f.e.t.e.
