Don’t Fall for the Aldi Parking Lot Scam on Facebook

Have seen the post on Facebook warning women to be very alert and aware of their surroundings while in the Aldi parking lot?

Some women are saying men are standing in between parked cars asking them to smell some perfume they're selling. It goes on to say it's not a perfume that you'll sniff but Ether. You'll pass out and then they steal your purse, your valuables, and your car.  You're also asked to share the warning with everyone to spread the word.

With several Aldi's in CNY, we needed to find out if this was true and quickly discovered that it's NOT. According to Snopes Ether is nasty, volatile stuff that requires a great deal more than a few brief inhalations to knock a person out. They go on to say that the claim of robbers in shopping mall parking lots using ether-filled perfume bottles to render their victims unconscious is FALSE and has been on the internet for more than 20 years.

We should try to use this as a reminder to be aware of surroundings in a parking lot and always look in the backseat before getting in your car.
