Demolition of Former Rome Cable Site Set to Begin in October
The NY DEC has a tentative date set to start the cleanup of the former Rome Cable site. With the site being declared part of the State's Superfund Sites, there are lots of i's to dot and t's to cross. Here are the agencies current plan.
The DEC's schedule calls for work to begin in October of this year with completion by June of 2020. Demolition of the building should be done before January. Work to be done includes:
- demolition of site structures
excavation of soils
debris consolidation
off-site disposal of soil and debris
import of clean backfill
installation of permanent perimeter fencing
The DEC will hold a public meeting at the South Rome Senior Center on Ridge Street, September 19 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. At the session they'll answer questions from the public, detail more specific dates and discuss efforts to minimize odor, dust, and noise impacts during the project.
You can read more on the plan at the DEC's website.
