Patrick Pipino may seem like a cool father to the rest of the world after his note excusing his daughter's tardiness went viral but to his kids, he's just boring old dad.

"Not even a little bit," Pipino says when asked if his daughter thought he was cool. "I'm no different than any other dad."

I consider myself an unfit parent in many ways but my daughters love Springsteen, the Beatles, Paul Simon. That's as good a parenting win I'm ever going to see

Not many dads would write a note explaining his child was late for school because of Bruce Springsteen. His family saw The Boss in Albany and Pipino writes "I'll be darned if he didn't play for three and a half hours. This may not seem like a good excuse, but have you ever wondered how many kids would be late or miss school outright if God were to suddenly appear? It's something like that."

Pipino wrote the note as a joke for the school staff who've read plenty of made up excuses. "I decided to go with honesty and see if they get a kick out of it," he says. But not everyone did. "Some people were upset with my comparison of Springsteen to God, while others felt I was advocating school tardiness."

There are only 3 rules in the Pipino house. "Be kind to everyone. Help whoever you can and when the Boss brings the band to town, be there," says Pipino who has seen Springsteen 15 times. "Of the 15 this was the best."

Pipino's two girls, Isabelle and Sarah, are huge Boss fans and have seen him several times as well. "I consider myself an unfit parent in many ways but my daughters love Springsteen, the Beatles, Paul Simon. That's as good a parenting win I'm ever going to see," he admits.
