The colored Christmas tree trend hit central New York and if you haven't gotten yours for the holiday season, you may be out of luck. Henderberg's Christmas Tree Farm in Rome has already sold out of the real colored trees and they aren't even officially open yet.

"Colored trees are currently sold out for the season. Thank you everyone on making our new product a complete success. Next year our colored inventory will greatly increase," says Henderberg's.

The colored trees are treated with a non-toxic colorant that won't come off and have taken off in central New York. Henderberg's originally colored only 12 trees but rushed to do more to keep up with the demand. The problem is it has to be above 40 degrees with no rain in the forecast, so they were at the mercy of Mother Nature.

You may be able to find a colored tree at Romagnoli's Christmas Tree Farm in Canastota where they even have multicolored trees.

Whether your real Christmas tree is colored or not, you can keep it fresh longer by using warm water the first time you get it home. "Using warm tap water will loosen up all the sap at the bottom and then all the water will soak up through," says Joshua Brodnicki of Hnderberg's.

Thankfully we tagged our purple Christmas tree early, before they sold out.
