It's official! The adorable new snow leopard cub at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo has a name, and it fits her all too well.

The zoo held a vote for the cub's name online, and Marcy came out on top. The cub's name is not only a town in Oneida County, but it's also the name of the tallest mountain in New York State. The zoo announced Marcy's name Friday afternoon, noting that the name's moutainous connection is fitting because snow leopards are "known as 'the grey ghosts of the Himalayas' because they blend into snowy forested peaks in their native habitat."

Other possible names for the cub were also New York-inspired and included Olive in second place, followed by Garnet, Riga and Clove. Marcy won with 474 votes out of 1,500.

Marcy was born at the Syracuse zoo on May 18, and at her one-month health check last month, she only weighed about 5 pounds! Visitors will be able to see the cub on exhibit in about a month, but until then, we'll have to get by on these gorgeous pictures.
