The news world is mourning the loss of veteran CBS news man and '60 Minutes' correspondent Bob Simon. The reporter who survived wars around the world for decades, was killed in a car crash in Manhattan. The car he was riding in collided with a Mercedes, before losing control, hitting a concrete median. The New York Daily News claims, both the driver and Simon had to be cut out of the car. He was 73.

Scott Pellet, broke the devastating news, while holding back tears, with a CBS special report.

Simon's career spanned five decades and included more than two dozen Emmy Awards. Known for his work in covering war zones, Pellet says "Simon gave us first hand reporting from virtually every major battlefield around the world." He was even became a POW in 1991 during the Gulf War and was held in an Iraqi prison for 40 days. Simon joined '60 Minutes' in 1996 and his loss sent shock waves through the news world. His friends and colleagues took to twitter to offer their condolences.
