Several people have been shot outside the Empire State Building in New York City this morning. The New York Times is reporting two people were killed, a civilian and the gunman.  8 others were wounded in the shooting.

The gunman has been identified as 53 year old Jeffrey Johnson who was fired from a company in the building.

State Senator Malcolm A. Smith told the Times 'a disgruntled employee who was fired, came back to the store he was working at and apparently shot the manager.  From there, the gunman came out onto the street and started randomly shooting individuals.'

Some of the people injured were hit by shots fired from police, trying to apprehend the gunman.

The shooting occurred at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.
