Kids can break out their Halloween costumes a little early for this fun run in Utica.

The Boolermaker at the Utica Zoo lets kids 4-12 years old run their hearts out on a miniature course. It's also a good chance to use your Halloween costume for more than one day a year. Mark this date and time: Saturday October 12, with check-in at 9 a.m. and heats starting at 10 a.m.

The course will have multiple turnaround spots at 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile and 1 mile so kids of all ages can run. Just make sure to wear sneakers and dress appropriately for the unpredictable Central New York October weather.

It's free to run, but you must register your kids in advance, and the field will cap off at 250 kids. Registration includes a runner gift bag and zoo admission for one child and one adult.

Register and read the list of dos and don'ts for the fun run here.
