Bears are smart! Especially when their babies are hungry. Watch incredible footage of a momma bear opening a car door in the Adirondacks.

The 'bearglary' happened in the Hollywood Hills area. The bear can be seen opening the sliding door of a van sitting in the driveway. Then she moves to the front door, looking for food to feed her cubs, that can be seen at the end of the video above, coming around the side of the house.

Most campers know bears are common in the Adirondacks and the destruction they can cause. Others aren't as knowledgeable. Look at what a bear did to one car in the Adirondacks....

Bear Destruction

If you're heading to the mountains, remember you're going to where bears call home.  Keep all your food, toiletries, and garbage in a bear resistant canister to avoid attracting black bears. Don't cook or eat after dark either or you may have one join you for dinner.

You may also want to carry bear spray as a precautionary measure for close encounters. If a bear does approach, don't give it food. Make noise to scare it away and call the DEC Regional Wildlife Office at 518-897-1291 to report any bear encounters.
