Memorial Day is about more than a three day weekend or the unofficial kick off to summer. We're reminded of the true meaning of the holiday by 3 year-old Logan Winter of Ilion who spends his Memorial Day weekend placing American flags on the gravestones of fallen soldiers.

Logan's dad Jason Winter says it's a habit he got into a few years ago. "He and his grandmother go to local cemeteries and place flags in remembrance of fallen soldiers and past vets."

Logan, who has family members in the service, is very patriotic. "If he sees a soldier at a store, he loves to stop and talk to them," Jason says.

Aunt Kayla says while they were at a local restaurant, Logan was enthralled by a table full of soldiers. "He kept asking to use the bathroom so he could walk by them. After the fourth time, I told him to go and say hi and give them a salute."

It was a moment that touched everyone in the restaurant including the soldiers. "They were smiling from ear to ear and gave Logan one last salute from the parking lot, through the window before leaving," Kayla says.

Logan's family couldn't be more proud of him and are looking hoping he continues to inspire. "He touches a lot of people in different ways without even knowing it. I see something bright in his future that's for sure," beams dad.

We could all take a page out of Logan's book and not just on Memorial Day weekend.
