Are there homeless people in Rome? The answer surprised a 10 year-old Rome girl who wanted to help during the holidays and gave the gift of meals to the Rome Rescue Mission.

After reading an article about the homeless in Rome Rebekah decided to give back to the Rome Rescue Mission. "I thought there was only one homeless person in Rome, but there was more. So I collected bottle and cans from my neighbors and friends." She even asked people on her brother Jacob's paper route to donate.

Rebekah's goal was to provide 5 ham dinners at Christmas but after collecting over 4,400 bottles & cans, $200 in non-perishable food items and cash donations, she was able to raise over $866.00 and give more. "We raised enough for 10 meals."

In addition to the meals, Rebekak created 30 stockings full of goodies for the kids in Rome as well. "Next year I want to try doubling it." says Rebekah. "I want to help the Rome Humane Society next time."

It's nice to see children embrace the true spirit of giving, not just during the holidays, but year round. Rebekah proves it really is better to give than receive.
