Tyler Farr is going to be at Wild West Frogfest and Rodeo this weekend and it got me wondering.... Why would you add water to whiskey? I don't usually drink whiskey so this a big mystery to me.

Many websites, and drink experts, suggest you add a splash of water to your whiskey. But why?

By adding a splash of water, flavors and aromas that might be missed in such a high proof whiskey begin to emerge and the burn of the alcohol becomes less noticeable."

I guess the logic behind this tip from Cocktails.about suggest if you add water, you get a better taste, and won't get a burn taste.

However, be very careful!

By adding water, or ice, to your whiskey changes it in both positive and negative ways.

Many whisky drinkers believe that you should not add any water to your whisky under any circumstance. This is because you are tasting the whisky in its true natural form with all of the original distillery characteristics and flavours from the cask in which it has been maturing. By adding a few drops of water to a whisky, you can open up different, new and subtle flavours that you previously had not experienced."

I guess it really depends on how you would like to drink your whiskey.

You can drink your whiskey in your water at Frogfest.
