December 27, 2012 Last winter was a tough one for winter sports enthusiasts but it looks like this year there will be plenty of snow and time to enjoy it. The Val Bialas Ski Center in Utica, according to our sister station WIBX, will be opening for the season today. It's perfect timing for the kids who are out of school this week to get out and ski, sled and snowboard. There are other ski areas who will be open as well.
December 30, 2011 It has been a very slow start to the winter sports season with snowmobilers and skiers hoping in vain for a healthy dose of the white stuff but it appears that wait is over. With most of Central New York expecting several inches of snow and colder temperatures over the next few days the area's ski center's can give their snow making machines a break and count on Mother Nature for some of the real thing. Most of the ski slopes are reporting improved conditions.
December 16, 2010 It looks like winter fun will come early to the City of Utica's Val Bialas Sports Center. Although the official start of winter isn't until Tuesday the 21st the Dan Miner of the Utica Observer Dispatch says that J. Mark Ford, operator of the center, is planning to open this Sunday.
