During interviews to promote her new album ‘Four the Record,’ Miranda Lambert talked about how the song ‘Over You’ was inspired by a car accident that killed Blake Shelton‘s brother Richie Shelton. As Lambert prepares to release the ballad as her next single, Shelton is talking more about the accident, the aftermath, and writing the song with his wife.
While working out this morning I was listening to one of my cassette tapes (OK, I can hear the snickering) and heard "Waterloo" by Stonewall Jackson. I started thinking about how different country music was 25, 30 or more years ago. Today's country artists are influenced more by pop or southern rock artists like the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd than Merle, Patsy, Loretta and "Old Hank". Then, the music was aimed primarily at an older blue collar and rural audience while today it crosses over countless demographics. Just look at the list of number one country songs from 1986, a mere 25 years ago.
Pistol Annies, the eclectic new trio consisting of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angleena Presley, are heading to Las Vegas for a show tomorrow night (Saturday), the beginning of a mini-tour that will take them to the West Coast for a further handful of appearances. Not only has she won numerous awards, but she tied the knot with husband Blake Shelton this past spring. Miranda Lambert‘s latest single ‘Baggage Claim’ may not be finished climbing the country charts yet, but she isn’t waiting to give fans another taste of her upcoming album ‘Four the Record.’
Through a unique partnership with the makers of the popular iPhone app Hipstamatic, Lambert has debuted the full-length final version of ‘Mama’s Broken Heart’ — the album track that, as she told concert audiences a few weeks ago, she hopes will follow ‘Baggage Claim’ into heavy rotation on radio playlists.
Miranda Lambert‘s upcoming release, ‘Four the Record,’ already has one hit single in ‘Baggage Claim’ and the album won’t even reach stores until November.
But that doesn’t mean she can’t already be thinking about the set’s second single — or share a potential contender with fans at a recent show.
When they got married earlier this year, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert joined the grand country music tradition of couples who have shared a home as well as a microphone. Naturally, there’s been a lot of speculation about when they’ll get around to recording together again — something they acknowledged when they announced they’d be co-producing their friend Neal McCoy’s new album.
According to Shelton, however, fans shouldn’t hold their breath for many musical collaborations between the newlyweds.
