"Christmas In the Mohawk Valley"-A Local Holiday Favorite [VIDEO]

A lot has changed since 1991, some 21 years ago. Back then we were "Jumpin' Country 96 Frog", still finding its way into Central New York's listening habits and "Christmas In the Mohawk Valley" had just been released to overwhelmingly popular support. Written and performed by local musician Mark Werchowski and a "few good friends" it struck a chord, a chord that still resonates to this day. Check out this video put together last year as a 20th anniversary remembrance.

And now for something completely different. A few years ago, singer-songwriter legend Bob Dylan recorded his first Christmas album entitled "Christmas In The Heart" under the name of Jack Frost. All Dylan's royalties on the album were donated to charities. I was so amazed to hear about this that I bought the CD. One of the original songs on the album of holiday favorites is a Polka called "Must Be Santa".

We have the sights of the season such as colorful Christmas decorations and the sounds of the season with Christmas carols seemingly everywhere. But how about the smells of the season. Fabreeze, Proctor and Gambles popular deodorizer and fragrance product, has released a survey in which they asked people about their favorite and least favorite holiday season smells. The results aren't all that surprising.

As we draw closer to the Christmas holiday we hear our favorite holiday songs over and over again. In some cases we hear them over and over and over and over again. ASCAP, the music publishing organization, has released its list of the most played holiday songs so far this year. Since October 1 the most played has been---are you ready--"Sleigh Ride" written by Leroy Anderson on a hot July day back in 1946.

The holiday season--Thanksgiving through New Year's--is supposed to be a fun festive time full of get togethers with family and friends but there are apparently some things that take the "jolly" out of "A Holly Jolly Christmas". Consumer Reports conducted a poll to find out what we dread the most during the holidays and the number one response was--surprise, surprise--"crowds and long lines" at 68%. What other things have us saying,

Ho, ho, ho. Or should I say, "Ho, ho, ho?" I was shopping at a local store Saturday when I heard the unmistakable strains of "Deck the Halls" coming through the overhead speakers. My wife later told me she has also heard Christmas music being played on the radio. (Not yet on Big Frog 104 though). If memory serves correct I don't recall Christmas music being heard quite so early, Thanksgiving being the usual starting date. Why so early you ask?
