Jake Owen found out there was a party happening just down the road from his Ohio State Fair show on Saturday night, and he didn’t want to miss it. The singer surprised a group of college students who were celebrating prior to the show. A simple visit turned into a mini-concert when Owen sang one of his hits on a borrowed guitar.

OSU student Eric Bennett says he tweeted at the “Real Life” singer earlier in the day, inviting him to come celebrate his 21st birthday. A few minutes later Owen confirmed and got directions. “My house at college is only about a 15-minute walk or so from where the concert was, so I told him where my house was,” Bennett explains. “He drove over with a couple of his friends and hung out for about a half hour with us.”

Bennett reveals Owen couldn’t have been more humble. He grabbed a guitar owned by someone living in the house and sang “Barefoot Blue Jean Night.” Then he talked college football, sharing that he’d worked out at the Ohio State University football facilities earlier that day. That night, Bennett got another surprise. He'd told the singer he loved his song "Heaven," and made a request ...

"He gave an awesome intro ... about how I tweeted at him that I was celebrating my birthday and how he showed up at my house and he said, 'So I'm playing this song tonight for Eric,'" the young man says. "That made it even that much more special."

Owen will spend the rest of the summer playing with Kenny Chesney on the The Big Revival tour in addition to playing fairs and festivals across America. Look for him at Country On the River in Prairie Du Chien, Wisc. on Aug. 7, and WE Fest in Detroit Lakes, Minn. on Aug. 8.

"Real Life" is the first single from Owen's upcoming studio album, his fifth with Sony Music Nashville.
