Retail giant J.C. Penney reports it will be closing anywhere from 130 to 140 stores as well as two distribution centers over the next several months. Will locations in Rome, New Hartford, and Syracuse be affected?

Times Union reports the closures represent about 13 percent to 14 percent of the company's current store count. As of the time of this reporting, no word on whether or not locations at Sangertown, in Rome, or Syracuse locations will be closing. USA Today reports a list of stores to close will be released in mid-March.

As for employees, the retailer plans to offer a "voluntary early retirement program" to about 6,000 workers, including corporate, store and supply chain workers. At least 6,000 workers nationwide will be affected.
