Last fall some women took offense when the Department of Environmental Conservation asked for photos of them hunting. So don't shoot the messenger, but now they are asking for photos of females fishing.

The DEC's says New York women are underrepresented when it comes to hunting and fishing. The goal is to use photos in their marketing campaigns and social media posts in hopes of encouraging young girls to take up outdoor activities.

Photo are accepted from June 17 thru July 8 in the following categories.:

  • Freshwater fishing
    Saltwater Fishing
    Ice Fishing
    Youth (girls) fishing
    Mothers and Children/Multi-Generational
Action shots (Casting, reeling, or landing the big one!)

Pictures can be emailed to womenhuntfishny@dec.ny.gov. Obviously, photos are required to be legal fishing techniques on New York waters. Get more info on requirements on the DEC's website.
