Do you like taking photos of the fish you catch? You better be careful here in New York. A new fishing rule here in New York could cost you $250 and up.

We live in a world where we constantly share photos on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Fisherman of course love to share photos too. Sometimes though, we are sharring photos of fish we caught out of season. Even though we probably release the fish back into the water, the DEC is watching these photos.

According to Syracuse.com, a new fishing regulation took effect on April 1st. It's listed on page 52 under the "General Take and Possession" heading:

"A person may not fish for a species (even if immediately released) during the closed season for that species on a given water. Fish caught during the closed season must be unhooked and released immediately. They may not be handled for any other purpose, including taking a picture."

This new rule states that taking a picture of an out-of-season fish can result in a ticket from an environmental conservation officer. The resulting penalty can be a fine of up to $250 fine, and/or 15 days in jail.

Keep this in mind when you take your photos.
