This year, the 2023 BSA Distinguished Citizen Award wille be presented to Josh Rawitch, president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The council says: "the BSA Distinguished Citizen Award is presented to those who exemplify, in their daily lives, the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law. The recipients are chosen for their outstanding community service as evidenced by the interest and leadership given to many worthwhile organizations as well as the respect and esteem in which they are held by their colleagues".
Rawitch is rounding his third year as president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Annually, the Hall of Fame welcomes around 250,000 guests, and 17 million since opening in 1939.

A bit about our local BSA Council
The Boy Scouts of America began in 1910 and was chartered by Congress in 1916.
The Leatherstocking Council provides character development and leadership skills training to 1,700 Scouts in Delaware, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Otsego and Schoharie counties, as well as parts of Hamilton and Lewis counties. We also maintain and staff Camp Kingsley near Rome, NY for Cub Scouts and Camp Henderson near Cooperstown for Boy Scouts. In the interest of minimizing operational costs and eliminating duplicate services, the Leatherstocking Council was formed in 2016 following the successful merger of the Revolutionary Trails and Otschodela councils.
