St. Patrick's Day is fast approaching and that means all things green - including beer. If you're not a beer person or you're just tired of the same old green Bud Light dyed with green food coloring, give these Irish shots a try.

These 5 Irish-themed shots are sure to make your St. Patrick's Day celebration a lot more interesting. We would say memorable but.....

Now it should be noted that two of these shots involve a layering process where you will slowly pour your second (or third) ingredient using a spoon to make the liquid 'float' on top of the previous layer.

You can see this technique in action in the video for the 'Baby Guinness' shot below.

1. Baby Guinness

Guinness is a must have beer for St. Paddy's day, but some people either don't enjoy this nectar of the gods or they are intimidated by its super dark color. If you aren't a Guinness drinker or just don't have room for another pint, try out the 'Baby Guinness'

You'll need Coffee liquor(like Kahlua) and Irish cream(like Bailey's) a spoon and a shot glass.

  • Pour 3/4 of the shot glass full with Kahlua
  • Then using the spoon, 'float' the Bailey's on top.
  • The shot should look just like the name says, a 'baby' pint of Guinness.

2. Irish Flag

What could be more St. Patrick's Day then drinking the Irish Flag?

This shot uses the above mentioned layering technique to create a drink resembling the green, white and orange of the Irish flag.

You'll need Creme De Menth, Bailey's and Grand Marnier, plus a spoon and shot glass.

  • You will first fill about 1/3 of the shot glass with the Creme De Menth
  • Next you'll do another 1/3 by 'floating' the Bailey's on top if the green Creme De Menth (using the spoon technique)
  • Finish off the 'flag' by 'floating' the Grand Marnier on top of the white Bailey's layer (again using the spoon technique)

If your layers didn't mix, you should have yourself a very Irish looking shot! (if your layers did mix, try watching the above video again to perfect the technique).

3. Irish Car Bomb

This is a favorite of Guinness drinkers and really packs a punch, so go easy on these.

You'll need some Guinness Draught (in bottles, cans or on tap), Jameson Irish Whiskey and Bailey's Irish Creme, plus a pint glass and shot glass.

  • First, pour about 1/2 to 3/4 pint of Guinness and set aside.
  • Next, pour half a shot of Jameson
  • Then, fill the rest of the shot glass with Bailey's
  • Finally, drop the shot glass in the Guinness and drink it all as fast as you can!

Important Note: once the jameson and Bailey's are mixed, the concoction will curdle fast, so make sure you have your Guinness poured and ready.

4. Irish Breakfast

This one is a lot more tame, and best of all it tastes like waffle syrup and breakfast!

You'll need Orange Juice, Jameson Irish Whiskey and butterscotch schnapps, plus two shot glasses.

  • First pour a full shot of orange juice(this will be used as a chaser)
  • Next combine a half shot of the Irish whiskey and a half shot of the butterscotch schnapps
  • Finally, drink the shot and chase with the orange juice immediately. Boom!

5. Irish Cuddle

If the other drinks scared you a little, this one is sure to make you feel secure.

You'll need Bailey's Irish Creme and Amaretto, plus a shot glass

  • For this shot all you have to do is combine half Bailey's and half amaretto and drink it!

For a chilled Irish Cuddle shot, mix equal parts of the Bailey's and amaretto in a shaker tin with ice, shake and pour!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Erin Go Bragh!
