This past week has been extremely miserable for me. I suffered from the stomach bug, or as some call the stomach flu. How can you prevent it?

Here's some helpful tips and tricks from the Mayo Clinic that make the most sense to prevent the spread of intestinal infections:

1) Wash your hands thoroughly.

Seriously, any time you are in public or at the office, wash them. I truly believe this is how I caught it while shopping.

It's best to use warm water and soap and to rub hands vigorously for at least 20 seconds, remembering to wash around cuticles, beneath fingernails and in the creases of the hands. Then rinse thoroughly."

2) Use separate personal items around your home.

Avoid sharing eating utensils, glasses and plates. Use separate towels in the bathroom. This is a big one. Make sure you aren't using shared things with spouses or children.

3) Keep your distance.

If you're sick, stay home. My wife had to knock sense into me on this one. Stay home and avoid close contact with anyone who has the virus if possible.

4) Disinfect hard surfaces.

Disinfect hard surfaces, and clean as much as you can with bleach and water. My wife was a rockstar taking care of this in our home.
