Additional Information

Go beyond the white picket fence of a suburban family as they secretly struggle with their mother’s mental health.

Next to Normal takes an honest look the sometimes harsh realities of “normal” life as a family dealing with their changing world, struggling with issues of trauma, loss, mental health treatment and the true meaning of family.

Diana Goodman has suffered from bipolar disorder and hallucinations for the past seventeen years and it is getting worse. She tries to balance her sanity, happiness and commitments to her family. The illness has affected everyone in her life, and has nearly torn her family apart, but her husband, doctor, daughter and son try to help her through the struggle in their own way.

This small cast, with their powerhouse vocals, will take us through the reality of mental illness and explore pressing contemporary issues.

"It is much more than a feel-good musical; it is a feel everything musical. A brave, breathtaking musical!" review by Ben Brantley from The New York Times
