Two neglected ponies in Boonville have been rescued by the CNY SPCA.

The CNY SPCA cruelty department received a call about neglected ponies in Boonville on May 29th. After checking them out, the ponies were brought back to the SPCA the next day. "I have never seen hooves like these," says Dee Schaefer from the CNY SPCA.

The ponies, Apple and Plumb, are both in their mid twenties. "As you can see from the pictures, their hooves are neglected, making walking very painful."

Schaefer says the ponies have not been vetted in a long time.  A large animal vet has gotten them up to date on shots and did their coggins test. "A farrier will be coming to begin the process of trimming the hooves."

The CNY SPCA has a corral but not a stable so a new one is being built for the newest arrivals. "Within 48 hours we purchased the lumber needed and a wonderful couple from Camden donated their time to build," says Schaefer.

This year the CNY SPCA has taken in a turkey, 38 chickens, 6 goats, a pig and the horses. "A stable is something we really need but the cost is something we weren't expecting. So we're asking for the public's help."
