As a general rule, I'm not usually a fan of remakes. But, there are always exceptions to the rules, right? The other day, I was listening to the Rascal Flatts version of "Life is a Highway" originally by Tom Cochrane, and, I thought what a great cover this is. So, that got me thinking...what other great country covers of rocks songs are there? There are a bunch of them. I decided to make a list of my favorites. Today, I would like to share with you my Top 5 Favorite Country Covers of Rock Songs.

  • 5. "Desperado" (Original--The Eagles)

    The original version of this song was released by The Eagles in 1973.

  • "Desperado"--Johnny Cash version

    The Johnny Cash cover was released in 2002.

  • 4. "Summertime Blues" (Original--Eddie Cochran)

    The original version was released in 1958 by Eddie Cochran. And, an interesting fact about this song, according to Wikipedia, "The song is ranked number 73 in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

  • "Summertime Blues"--Alan Jackson version

    This version of the song was released in 1994. This song hit No. 1 for Jackson in the US Country Songs charts.

  • 3. "Piece of My Heart" (Original--Erma Franklin)

    The original song by Erma Franking wouldn't be considered rock--it's more categorized as gospel and R&B. But, a very popular version by Janis Joplin is considered rock. The original song was released by Franklin in 1967 and gained a lot of popularity in 1968 when Joplin covered it.

  • "Piece of My Heart"--Faith Hill version

    The cover was released in 1994.

  • 2. "Take It Easy" (Original--The Eagles)

    The Eagles--on the list again. This song was released in 1972.

  • "Take It Easy"--Travis Tritt version

    Tritt's version of this song was released in 1994.

    This song is great. And, I have to admit, the Rascal Flatts cover of it is really, really good. The original song was released in 1991.
