Woman Finds Winning Lottery Ticket In the Trash But Has To Give It Back

An Arkansas woman thought she had hit the jackpot after finding a winning lottery ticket worth $1 million dollars in the trash but a judge has ruled otherwise. According to LotteryPost.com Sharon Jones found the winner while sifting through discarded tickets in a trash can outside a convenience store. It had been mistakenly thrown away by another lottery player, Sharon Duncan. Finders keepers?
Not according to the judge.
White County judge Thomas Hughes, however, said Jones never met the burden of proof that Duncan abandoned her right to claim $1 million.”The $1 million was never found money,” Hughes said.

This is a tough call. Sure, I feel bad for the woman who tossed the ticket but what if you buy something at a yard sale and it turns out to be valuable. Can the seller say, “Oops” and demand it back?
