UPDATED 6:45pm: Steady snow will fall through midnight.  Expect an additional 2-3 inches

UPDATED 5:14pm: Nemo is over our area and snow is expected to continue through early morning.  Heavy snow will begin soon and last until about 10:30 tonight.  3-5 inches is expected. Be advised!

A big winter storm is on the way.  We could see up to 10 inches of snow.  According to The Weather Channel, the storm warning will be up until 7 a.m. Saturday.

The storm, being called Nemo will hit Onondaga, Madison and Oneida counties with 6 to 10 inches expected. The heaviest snowfall will arrive late this afternoon, into this evening.

In addition to the heavy snow, the storm will bring windy conditions, causing blowing and drifting snow.

This has the potential to be a top 10 snowstorm all-time in Boston. There have been only seven snowstorms of 20 inches or more in Boston.

Snow Timeline

Friday: Morning snow in southern New England, including Boston and Hartford. Snow ends in Lower Michigan around midday. Snow continues, heavy at times, over New York state, far northern/northeast Pennsylvania and most of New England through the day. NYC, Long Island, central/southern New Jersey may start as rain much of the day.

Friday night: Heavy snow over much of New England, New York, far northern New Jersey and the New York City metro.  2-3" per hour are possible in coastal New England, including Boston, Hartford, and Portland, Maine.

Saturday: Heavy, wind-driven snow continues in New England, shifting to the eastern coast by afternoon. Snow ends in the morning around New York City. Snow finally tapers off in Boston Saturday evening.
