The Joseph F. William Memorial Park and Beach in Cicero will be closed to swimmers for the 2015 summer season.

Syracuse.com reports that the public swimming area will not be open due to water quality issues in Oneida Lake. Poor water quality issues over the past few years has forced officials to close the swimming area for this summer.

The Onondaga County Health Department closed the beach several times in recent years because of high levels of bacteria and dense algae blooms containing blue‐green algae.

"Unfortunately because of these mandated health department closings many of our users have voiced their concern about swimming and its impact on the health of their children if they did," Rogers said."

However, the park will be open for users who want to picnic, rent a pavilion, launch canoes, kayaks, fish from the shore or pier, and sit and take in the view.
