The Super Bowl is the highest rated sporting event in America with about 114.5 million viewers. How else could they get away charging $5 million dollars for a 30 second commercial?

Everyone watches the Super Bowl in one way or another. If you don't watch the game, then you watch the highly anticipated commercials or tune into the half-time show. The Super Bowl is a 50-year institution with parties, food, fun, and it's a late night. So late, millions of Americans either call in sick to work Monday or take the day off, proving the day after Super Bowl should be a holiday. Why? Here's 5 reasons.

1. Mental Clarity

You need your employees to focus on whatever their job might be. Lethargic, sleep deprived employees are NOT productive employees. Kronos Inc says employees will lose $850 million in productivity.

2. Good For The Local Economy

If professionals know they don't have to work the next day they might have a party. That means more local sales for snacks, booze, beer and taxi cabs. If that's no feasible, they may just enjoy the festivities at a local establishment.

It doesn't matter what type of job or career you're in; everyone needs some time to blow off steam. A day full of football fun without worries of going to work the next day may be just the ticket. Co-workers enjoy the game together forming better bonds to bring back to the workplace.

4. Beneficial To The Workplace/Business

If the day after the Super Bowl was a national holiday then businesses wouldn't have so many employees calling in sick. Unplanned absence is a huge cost to any business and it skyrockets the day after the Super Bowl.

5. You Could Be The Hero

Don't you want to be the best boss ever? If there's ever a time to be a push over THIS is it. It'll come back to you tenfold. Happy employees equal employees that stay with you - work hard for you and make you look good. Pick you're battles because if they haven't requested or planned for Monday off, they're considering calling in sick.
