With summer finally here, it's time to break out those poles and get to catching some bass. The only real question is where you would want to go.

The black bass season is officially opened, and there are tons of place in Central New York for you to catch some. Both largemouth and smallmouth bass both fall under the category of black bass, and there are tons of fishing holes in the Utica/Rome area as well as Syracuse.

For those of you in the Utica/Rome area, The Erie Canal and Sauquoit Creek are the spots to be. Lock 20 State Canal Park is an ideal place to be along The Erie Canal with tons of fish and a pavilion and restroom area. You can access the Sauquoit Creek to fish via the New Hartford Athletic Park, with a wheelchair-accessible fishing platform, playground, pavilion, and restroom.

Onondaga Lake and Oneida Lake are some places you might want to check out to fish if you're from the Syracuse area. Towards the end of summer, Onondaga Lake is especially active for fishing and is wheelchair user accessible. Oneida Lake has two points of access on either side of I-81, with both shallow and deep water fishing, and it's also wheelchair user accessible.

For information about where else you can fish in Central New York, you can check out the DEC's Fishing Close To Home List.
