What’s Brewing At The F.X. Matt Brewery – Saranac Wet IPA
As you may know by now, as a former F.X. Matt Brewery tour guide, I have a keen interest in what’s brewing there (As we always say, beer is thicker than water). Now, the brewery is developing a working relationship with a local organic farm.

Acccording to saranac.com:
Two of New York’s oldest family-owned businesses have applied their combined 200-plus years of experience in brewing and agriculture to create the newest beer in the Saranac High Peaks lineup, Saranac Wet Hop India Pale Ale (IPA). This partnership between the F.X. Matt Brewery, America’s oldest craft brewery, and Wrobel Farms, an organic gourmet garlic, heirloom hop and modern hop cultivator, is a model of success that represents New York’s commitment to supporting local agriculture and business.
In late August, 200 local volunteers helped the F.X. Matt Brewery pick special heirloom hops as part of the second annual Saranac Hop Harvest for the Saranac Wet Hop IPA. The limited-edition beer is brewed with 12 varieties of locally grown hops, including six different varieties of heirloom hops dating back to the 1800s.
Saranac Wet Hop IPA, a special 120-barrel brew available in a 22-ounce bottle and on tap, is a hop-heavy brew with a dry, citrusy taste and a nutty biscuit malt character.”
