UPDATE: The sheen seen on Lake Ontario is from an oil leak at FirtzPatrcik Nuclear plant. A pump failure caused the leak, according to Syracuse.com. Clean up efforts are underway.

What is that sheen seen floating on Lake Ontario near Oswego? The United States Coast Guard is trying to find out.

A Coast Guard Auxiliary air crew noticed the sheen near the Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Scriba, New York, during a flight Sunday.

The cause is unknown but the Coast Guard has established a temporary safety zone extending two miles to the north and two miles to the east and west from the Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant.

Samples of the sheen have been taken and are being tested.

Representatives from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are also on scene.
