We have all heard of terms like 'SPAC,' 'chicken riggies,' and 'finger lakes,' but here are some weird upstate New York words that we've never heard before, and doubt you have either.

We first brought you "Weird Upstate Lingo You've Probably Never Heard," after an article was posted from NewYorkUpstate.com that listed vocabulary you're likely to hear in upstate New York. While their list was mostly true, naming things like "Letchworth," "Salt Potatoes," and the "Thruway," there were a few things on their list that we had never heard of before. So we had a little fun asking coworkers what those words meant - which you can check out in the video at the bottom of this page.

This time, we found a quiz from Women.com, that asks how well you know upstate New York Slang. Although the test was pretty easily written, there were still 'phrases' on it that we had never heard of. These are the ones that stuck out the most:

"Sponge Candy" - Some call it "honeycomb toffee" (but we haven't heard of either). It's a sugary toffee that has a sponge-like texture (obviously, right?!). Sometimes it's coated in chocolate or some kind of drizzle, and it's really popular in the Buffalo area.

"Melba Sauce" - It's usually made from pureed and strained raspberries, and it's a sauce used for dipping mozzarella sticks (although, it was first used as a dessert topping). This one seemed pretty different, but there are restaurants around Albany take part in this one. Maybe that's why Arby's asks if you want their berry sauce if you order mozzarella sticks.

"Beef on Weck" - This one was pretty easy to guess that it was some kind of beef sandwich, but we still had to do some digging to find out exactly what it is. According to Zagat.com, "weck" is short for kummelweck - Which is a kaiser roll with pretzel salt on top of it and caraway seeds. The roast beef on the sandwich is topped with horseradish. This is another one that's popular in the Buffalo and Western New York area.

"Namby-Pamby" - This is an insult. It is usually used to describe someone who whines and complains a lot, or someone who is weak. It can also describe someone who is indecisive - But in either case, it's not a good thing. Where do people say this? Apparently, someplace in upstate New York, although we're not familiar with the term.

The rest of the quiz mentioned things like chicken riggies, the Adirondacks, and Saranac. You can test your upstate New York lingo knowledge by checking our Women.com's quiz here.
