Growing up over Christmas break, my parents always wanted to make sure we had an amazing time off from school. Along with the normal Christmas happenings, they tried to make different nights special with movie nights. However, the movies weren't always the best quality Hollywood flicks.

During the break, and other breaks from school, my parents would take us to Blockbuster and other family video style rental places. I have two older sisters, so we didn't always agree on what movie to rent. My Dad mainly would pick a movie for us if we took too long deciding what movie to rent. His choices were probably what was on the shelve next to him at that moment. That didn't always equal amazing movies. Looking back, these are some of the weird choices of movies they had us watch, and not only watch, but dive into several times.

Big Bully

From 1996, "Big Bully" featured Rick Moranis and Tom Arnold. What could go wrong in this choice? The film was a massive box office bomb. It only made $2,000,000 from an estimated $15 million budget. The big perk of this movie, I was introduced to the  Evel Knievel action figure.

Howard The Duck

You always read stories of parents picking up movies with characters they think are designed for children, but are actual for adults. This is the only explanation I can think of why they rented. The movie is filled with adult humor, and the main character is a duck going through a midlife crisis.

Mom And Dad Save The World

Mom and Dad Save the World is back from 1992. Jon Lovitz plays an evil Emperor in space who reigns over the planet named Spengo. It's like Space Balls meets Star Wars meets a movie about parents. I remember my parents putting this on for us several times. Why? My parents must have stock in Jon Lovitz.

Stay Tuned

Due to this movie, I had a massive fear of satellite dishes up until my teen years. Main plot, satellite dish is from Satan, he sucks people into the TV and kills them. BUT, it's a family comedy. Yes, family comedy. I always wanted the young kids bike that was sucked into the dish. It actually has a decent cast, such as John Ritter.

Ernest Scared Stupid

My Dad was a massive Ernest fan. What's there not to like? I was absolutely terrified of trolls and pig people growing up because of this movie. Yes, as an adult I can look back and die laughing at this fear. Why did we watch this over Christmas? No idea.
