Watching Favorite Old TV Shows Good For Your Brain
What? I always thought that we would be accused of being “couch potatoes” if we flopped on the sofa and watched TV. Here’s the difference. A new study says that watching old episodes of your favorite TV shows can relax your brain and give it an energy boost. So, before we start breaking out the “I Love Lucy” DVD, let’s see why.
According to an article in the “Globe”, University of Buffalo researcher Jay Derrick claims that there is a restorative effect on the brain in watching familiar old favorite TV shows. Apparently just watching current TV shows doesn’t have the same effect.
OK, I’m game. Here’s a brief clip of one of my favorite TV shows, ” The Carol Burnett Show”, and let’s see if watching this restores my brain, and maybe yours. This is the classic “Gone With The Wind” parody, “Went With The Wind”. By the way, the cast of “The Carol Burnett Show” was on TV yesterday promoting the release of a new box set of the show, just in time for holiday gift-giving! Please pass the popcorn.
