After a heavy wave of negative publicity the Village of Whitesboro has made a decision to consult with the Oneida Indian Nation and members of the White family to redesign the controversial village seal. The calls for a change came last Summer as national media outlets picked up on the seal and its questionable nature, but it was 'The Daily Show with Trevor Noah' that really ramped things up. Despite residents insistence and votes to keep the seal as is, accurately depicting the story of the village's founding. According to Whitesboro mayor Pat O'Connor,

I have reached out to descendants of the White family and the Oneida Indian Nation. Members of the White family want it re-designed also because that is not the legacy that they want for Whitesboro though they know there is no ill intent behind the current seal. We are going to work with the White family and the Oneidas to create a new image that reflects the great relationship between White and the Oneidas.

The mayor maintains it's important to not only keep the people of Whitesboro happy, but to also maintain the true legacy of the founder of Whiteboro, his family, and the strong pride of the tradition that has existed here since the 1800s.
