Utica’s Famed Half-Moon Cookies Get National Attention

YouTube

There are certain gastronomic delicacies that are native to Central New York like chicken riggies and greens. Now another one of Utica’s favorite taste treats has gotten recognition. MSN has listed the half-moon cookie which originated in Utica as one its “10 Best Regional Desserts” on its homepage. According to MSN.com

The origins have been linked to glazed Amerikaner cookies in Germany and Halfmoon cookies topped with chocolate frosting and vanilla buttercream at Hemstrought’s Bakery in Utica, NY

via Best Regional Desserts – American Desserts – Delish.com.

Although the original Hemstroughts Bakery is long gone the cookies themselves live on at a number of local pastry maker locations.

Who do you think has the best half moons?
