Utica Brewers Beat Sherrill 2-1 On Sac Fly in 9th

I have been a baseball fan since I was 7 years old, first rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers and then–after their move to the west coast–cheering on the LA Dodgers. However in this era of big money and bigger egos my interest has waned. That’s why I have come to enjoy watching amateur ball where the players hustle and grind it out. Last night I took in my first Utica Brewer’s game of the season at Murnane Field and it won’t be my last.
The Utica Brewers won a hard earned 2-1 decision over Sherrill on Brett Dennis’ ninth inning sac fly that drove in Kenny Durling who had tripled. The NYSCBL rosters are peopled by college players from all over the country and the Brewers are no exception. It was a joy to sit back in the grandstand, have a hot dog and beer, cheer for the home team, boo the ump and watch ballplayers who actually hustle. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy a beautiful summer’s evening. The Brewers entertain Sherrill again tomorrow night at 7 at Murnane Field.
