Fall means changing leaves and brilliant colors.  The best place to see the changing colors?  Right here in Upstate New York. The area was voted the top spot for Fall foliage by the Huffington Post.

Upstate New York beat out Vermont, Quebec, Canada, Missouri and Oregon for its colors. A route to see the best of the best was even suggested:

'There may not be another place in the world that is more famous for it's changing leaves than the northern reaches of New York state. Heralded in films and literature alike, the vibrant layers of orange, red, and yellow are nearly impossible to beat. Our favorite route? Highway 97, from Hancock to the sleepy little enclave of Port Jervis.'

If you plan on taking a Fall foliage tour, don't forget your camera. You can go by car, rail, boat or plane. There's even hot air balloon rides.

The variety of broad-leaved trees, helps give the region’s foliage a spectacular color range. New York State has almost as many acres of such trees as the rest of the Northeast combined. The changes begin high in the Adirondack and Catskill mountains in late August and early September, and spreads out and down across the hills and valleys of the state, ending on Long Island and in New York City in early November. It takes about two weeks for the colors to complete their cycles in any given area, with peak brilliance lasting three to four days in any one spot, according to ILoveNY.com that provides an annual Fall foliage report.
