Once again the American Idol judges were unanimous in their opinions of Tristan McIntosh’s performance — they all agreed her cover of Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High on That Mountain" on Thursday night (March 3) was wonderful.

The 15-year-old Nashville resident enjoyed a major bounce-back week after the three Idol judges panned her version of Dan + Shay’s “Nothin' Like You.” McIntosh stayed true to Gill’s original, playing piano during her shortened version of the Grammy-winning song. About 45 seconds in a chorus of backing vocalists joined in, as they do when Gill sings it.

When she was done, Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. stood with the studio audience. “I believe that is the Tristan that American fell in love with and that got you to that point,” Lopez said after Urban thanked Gill for such a wonderful song and mentioned his new album.

“You should be very proud.”

Connick Jr. asked McIntosh who she was thinking of as she sang the song. The teen held her emotions in during the performance, but began to tear up as she talked about her grandfather.

“I found out a few days ago, he broke his back. It’s kind of dedicated to him," she explained. Earlier in the day mentor Scott Borchetta promised this performance would be McIntosh's best. He was right.

McIntosh made it into the Top 8 this week and is counting on America to help her get to Top 6 of this final season of American Idol. It’s a shortened season, with the finale scheduled for the first week of April.
