Country star Tracy Byrd and his wife Michele were injured in a car accident in Texas on Tuesday afternoon. According to 12 News Now in Beaumont, Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis said the ‘Keeper of the Stars’ singer and his wife were  driving northbound on Highway 69 in a Ford Excursion shortly after 1PM, when a woman driving a Toyota going southbound turned left onto 327 and crossed into their path, causing the collision.

Byrd, his wife and 64-year-old Jolliette Capo — the driver of the other vehicle — were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Michele underwent two surgeries to her left foot as a result of the accident. She posted to Facebook later in the evening to thank those who had expressed their support, saying she was blessed.

Capo received a citation for failure to yield the right of way. Local residents took to the news station’s website to vent their frustrations with the intersection, which several noted as particularly dangerous. “I live on 327 and I see cars yielding from 69 to 327 trying to beat 69 traffic all the time,” one citizen posted. “Maybe a stop sign should be put up instead of a yield sign.”

Another local resident agreed, insisting, “Stop sign needed. Several people have been killed in that intersection!”

According to the Houston Chronicle, an official at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont said neither the Byrds nor Capo were not listed as patients on Wednesday.
