Toyota and Nissan are recalling over 6.5 million vehicles for faulty air bags made by the Japanese company Takata.

Toyota is recalling over 600,000 vehicles in the United States, including the Corolla subcompact, RAV4 sport utility vehicle and Tundra pickups from March 2003 through November 2007.

Nissan's recall covers 1.56 million vehicles globally, 326,000 of them in North America. They include the Sentra compact, Caravan van and X-Trail sport utility vehicle, made from 2004 through 2007.

17 million vehicles have already been recalled in the U.S., 22 million worldwide, by 10 different auto makers because of the Takata air bag problems.

Last March Honda recalled over 100,000 vehicles for the same problem.
