Officials in the Town of Messena in the North Country are applying for funding that would help them open a fishing school.

According to the Watertown Daily Times, town council members have given the go-ahead for Messena Town Supervisor Steven D. O’Shaughnessy to sign a resolution in support of a grant application through the Consolidated Funding Application process to create the fishing school.

If approved the school would “promote the fourth coast as a destination” for fishing and recreation along the St. Lawrence River and the North Country.

Massena town officials told the Daily Times that they have the option of opening the school themselves, or possibly teaming up with another business like the Nicandri Nature Center.
