After over 15 years in NASCAR Tony Stewart has decided to retire after the 2016 season. The past few seasons have not been kind to the 45-year-old owner and racer. During the 2013 season Stewart missed the final 15 races due to a leg injury. In 2014 he had to deal with the fallout from the death of Kevin Ward Jr. and now in 2015 he is having the worst season of his career currently sitting 25th in the standings. His many accomplishments however can not be ignored.

Stewart is a 3-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion. He took home the titles in 2002, 2005, and 2011 and he is tied for 13th in overall career victories with 48.

According to ESPN.com,

Stewart will run one final season before handing over the driving duties of the Stewart-Haas Racing No. 14 car to Clint Bowyer in 2017, sources said.

Stewart will continue to be a part of NASCAR in the role of owner for Stewart-Haas Racing.
