Today Is National Pastry Day

There’s nothing quite so aromatic as the sweet smell of a pastry shop and today, December 9, is National Pastry Day. Nobody can actually pinpoint the origin of it but who cares? The fact is that the holiday season is the perfect time to head to your favorite pastry shop and indulge in your favorite pies, cakes and cream puffs to name a few. Pastry is the name given to various kinds of baked products made from ingredients such as flour, sugar, milk, butter, shortening, baking powder and/or eggs. Small cakes, tarts and other sweet baked products are called “pastries.”
Pastry may also refer to the dough from which such baked products are made. Pastry dough is rolled out thinly and used as a base for baked products. Common pastry dishes include pies, tarts, quiches and pasties.
