There was a time when no one knew that Tim McGraw was the son of baseball player Tug McGraw — including Tim himself. It was years until McGraw met his biological father, but McGraw cherishes the memory, as he showed fans with a post featuring first photo of the two together.

"First time I met my father...... Houston astrodome. #tbt" the singer writes.

McGraw is shown standing next to his father, both wearing Philadelphia Phillies hats, with Tug on the field and McGraw in the stands. The now-star is only 11 in the poignant photo. McGraw has said that he and his dad only saw each other twice when he was that age, then not again until he was 18. Before that, he grew up believing his stepfather was his biological father and went by the last name of Smith. Tim and Tug did become close as adults and remained so until Tug’s death in 2004.

McGraw and wife Faith Hill have three daughters of their own, mostly grown up, with two in college. The couple have said it’s been tough letting go, but that sending the girls into the world is exciting. McGraw and Hill are getting ready to go on tour together next year, so they’ve been soaking up ‘normal’ life recently, which for them includes Hill’s recovery from foot surgery and McGraw making chicken and dumplings for her. The romance is very much alive for these two 20 years after they wed, as fans could clearly see in Hill’s adorable anniversary note for McGraw.

McGraw’s tune “Humble and Kind” from his most recent record Damn Country Music was a runaway hit, and his current single “How I’ll Always Be” is in the Top 10 on country radio. The Soul2Soul World Tour kicks off in April 2017.
